Moldova is in an increasingly volatile political situation that presents new challenges for democratisation. New civic and political activists have emerged and have had some successes in mobilising citizens on issues such as corruption and state capture. However, the establishment continues to impede activities of critical opposition, civil society and independent media through restrictive legislation and other pressures.
