Back to Where we work

Date modified: 27 July 2020

Egypt’s political and economic situation continues to deteriorate, with dissent eliminated and the military taking over various industries and economic sectors. The country’s constitution was also amended giving increased power to the military and further increasing the president’s power. Economic woes remain acute and corruption is rife at all levels of government.
A recent law regulating activities on non-governmental organisations has threatened to further shrink the already highly restrictive environment for civil society. Many donors find it increasingly difficult to operate in the country.
