The Lebanese Peace of Art

  • Name of organisation / initiative supported: The Lebanese Peace of Art
  • Start date: 1 July 2017
  • End date: 30 June 2018

Initiative summary:

The Bekaa valley region is remote and marginalised with high levels of deprivation.

The region has also been long split by sectarian and religious tensions, further exacerbated by the spillover of the Syrian conflict and the large refugee influx. In this context, the Lebanese Peace of Art (PoA) aims to open new horizons for Lebanese and Syrian adolescents by creating an alternative space where they can meet and develop a sense of citizenship and democratic values that transcend their sectarian affiliations. The initiative will involve 80 teenagers who will take part in civic education workshops, allowing young people from different groups to meet and get to know each other in a tension free environment. The participants will build working teams and take part in artistic workshops on photography, acting, music, drawing, and filming. An exhibition will be organised at the end of the project.
