LGBT rights are one of the most politically and socially controversial topics in Georgia, in no small part because of the influence of the Georgian Orthodox Church on the population. LGBT activists are often the target of violence from right-wing extremist groups, and political authorities usually have an ambiguous stance towards LGBT issues.
Tbilisi Pride aims to challenge homophobia and increase visibility for the Georgian LGBT community. They have already managed to build positive cooperation with various stakeholders, including politicians and other human rights organisations, and will continue to do so with EED support.
