  • Start date: 1 April 2017

Initiative summary:

After a decline in the revolutionary momentum in 2011–2013, a large number of young Egyptian left-wing activists continue to search for answers to political, social, economic and cultural issues their country and the region have experienced.

By producing high-quality analytical content and engaging with youth, Maraya - a cultural journal for freedom and justice is trying to provide this segment of the Egyptian society with a platform to share and communicate their ideas. In their work, Maraya adopt a critical approach stemming from the principles of freedom, social justice and human rights. They focus on topics such as religion, gender, alternative perspectives of history, underground cultural scene, the aftermath of the revolution, the constitutional debate and the Arab-Israeli conflict. With EED support, the journal will continue to publish its magazine and maintain online journal.
